Trump and Co are self-defeating now, and people are rising up, but wait till inflation goes through the roof with these insane Tariff policies - if Trump got elected to get prices down, well, now they're gonna go up, through the roof. Then finally (hopefully) the Trump Trance will break and people will see they were conned bigly by the Conman in Chief. Golden Age my ass!!!

THUGTOCRACY. Trump and Musk are leading this nation like a criminal enterprise. I’m so frightened, but I’m glad that you’re back in the fight. 🥷

Bernie Sanders made a speech recently where he called this new regime an AUTOCRACY (rule by one Dictator), an OLIGARCHY (rule by the few), and a KLEPTOCRACY (rulers enrich themselves).

I think PLUTOCRACY (rule OF THE RICH, BY THE RICH, fFOR THE RICH) best describes the current Trump/Musk regime.

I also think it's critically important that we have a media platform with a neutral name and short, to the point factual stories. If we want to reach the masses, we need to be the NY Daily News, not The Times. 2000 word articles are only great if anyone is truly reading them.

Welcome back my friend. I am really glad you decided to step back in the ring even with my diametricalky opposed opinion to your article title... that we just left the eight or so years of status quo Democrat control insanity... the thing that the majority voted to end that insanity and Trump is doing exactly what he campaigned on. It is crazy that Democrats handed Trump their old platform over their weird radical woke agenda. Things like opposition to corporate consolidation and Wall Street greed, free speech, working class economic health, women's rights. Yeah, that is Democrat insanity giving those things to Trump and opposing policies in support of them.

Mike Colucci's avatar

Did the majority vote for a new insanity and a disregard of the Constitution? I don't think so and remember that 'majority' wasn't overwhelming and is made up of a lot more than Trump MAGA supporters, for the reasons you state.

And I'd bet some money that most of that majority didn't have Elon Musk running the government.

Expand full comment
Frank Lee's avatar

The majority voted to eject the corruptors of constitutional governance to replace them with leaders for the people. Sounds to me like you are outside of what we consider American people.

Elon Musk is not "running the government." You people are prone to hysterical hyperbole that is indicative that you are non-serious and/or intellectually dishonest. You have gotten drunk on stupid political sloganeering that exceeds its shelf-life almost the same day ya'll get the collectivist talking points memo to spew it. You don't seem to recognize that it conveys both that ya'll must consider the electorate stupid to buy it, and that ya'll are uncontrolled emotional dopes that cannot access your critical thinking processor.

Musk has experience dealing with efficiency for large organizations. He is a great choice to advise the President. And his access to all the data is read-only. It is the people's data, so the fact that Democrats are squealing like a pen of piglets is telling that Democrats are not supporters of the constitution unless it benefits the Democrat party.

Expand full comment
Mike Colucci's avatar

The oath I took to uphold the Constitution of the United States is something I take quite seriously. Sounds to me like you're uncomfortable with that concept. The Constitution and our system of government is not something to be ignored as a matter of convenience. I've disagreed with many SCOTUS decisions and actions of officials from both parties; however if they were lawfully done within our system, it is the law.

With regard to Musk, he may be a great choice to advise the President. Is this advice; “We spent the weekend feeding USAID into the wood chipper,” Mr. Musk gloated on X at 1:54 a.m. Monday."? Sounds like running the Government to me. In fairness, I'm waiting for more information on Marko Elez.

And, to use your words that I don't normally use, you people are so blinded by the BS from Trump and Musk you can't see what's going on. Which is nothing different than Trump's M.O. for the past 40 years.

Expand full comment
Frank Lee's avatar

I am of the cohort of the least blinded. I see the entire landscape quite clearly.

Musk has only read-only access to the data, and he has not role making final executive decisions. He advises the people in the Trump administration including those approved by the Senate to make the executive decisions.

Your whine is like complaining that Charlie Munger has too much power advising Warren Buffet's executive decisions.

You are in fact engaged in intellectual dishonest, hyperbole and frankly hysterical childish wailing that is clearly Musk Derangement Syndrome.

Fucking Biden had thousands of unelected "advisors" pushing him around in his potted plant cart and Weekend at Bernies moving his pen hand to sign things he could not even understand... but no criticism from you about that.

Expand full comment
Mike Colucci's avatar

Ah, so my comment is an intellectually dishonest, hyperbolic childish wailing.

Okay, so "Fucking Biden had thousands of unelected "advisors" pushing him around in his potted plant cart and Weekend at Bernies moving his pen hand to sign things he could not even understand.." is in your mind a perfectly valid statement of the least blinded? Sure.

I have plenty of criticism of Biden. I, unlike you, are a firm believer in Teddy Roosevelt's quote: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Expand full comment
Frank Lee's avatar

It is ironic that you quoted Teddy Roosevelt as he is probably my favorite President and I think there are similarities with him and Trump. One glaring difference is that Trump was successful at remaking the Republican party and winning that next term, while Roosevelt split the Republicans and gave the country to Wilson... and that mistake caused much of the mess in governance that Trump and Musk are trying to clean up.

I am good with rational, meaningful and critical-thinking backed criticism of anyone and anything. The focus on Musk today has none of those attributes.

Think about all the "czars" that Obama and Biden hired for his administration. Or think about all the NGOs given access to data from the government to further Democrats' political agenda. Wailing about Musk given access to the federal HR data to execute on government efficiency does not pass the smell test based on precedent. Trump can just hire Musk with the authority and role to do this job... oh, wait... that is what Trump has done.

Maybe because of my experience dealing with efficiency efforts for large corporations I bristle at this demonstrated ignorance of what the job takes and why it is important. Musk is supremely qualified for that role given his private sector experience.

Executive power and authority has been constantly pushed by all Presidents. Congress is so filled with corruption and graft (how the eff did Chuck Schumer earn $81 million is net worth as a US Senator?) and partisanship that nothing of substance except spending more money gets done. Anyone making the case that Trump should just concede all these decisions to Congress for reasons of constitutionality is in fact advocating for the status quo.

Like you, Pat, I had given up. But the more insanity I see everyday, the more need there is to fight back. How? Not sure. Who to follow? Who to trust? Not sure. But if we all just give up, then evil will definitely triumph. So at least here's a place to vent, to find solace with others, and hopefully to find some way of getting through this dark era of American history.

The Pro-Trumpers (like Frank Lee) are still here, still bashing WOKE and DEI as if they're the cause of all problems, still blind to Trump & Musk's self-enrichment. Who would imagine that an unelected unaccountable billionaire would be handed the keys to the American Treasury.

what troubles me most, Mike, is that we had the chance to be rid of Trump once and for all, but for a multitude of reasons, the dump-Trump movement collapsed and now he's got literally unlimited power - ruling by Executive Orders, trampling on the Constitution, lying lying lying, and surrounded and supported by his cowardly sycophantic Republican party, not to mention Elon and his unelected unaccountable team who have the keys to the kingdom, and all the Trump surrogates (including Congress and Senate boot-lickers) repeat endlessly is "the People" elected Trump and it's not for us to stand in his way.

We're only 2 weeks into Trump's reign and he's got the whole world on edge. Not to mention his Insane Clown Posse of appointments (RFK, Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel, etc) to the top administrative positions - their qualifications? they fought for Trump on his campaign.

So, what's to be done?

The only reason I re-entered the battle is to re-post the article from Feathers of Hope, where it points out the weak link in Trump's chain (the razor-thin Repub majority in the House) and how it might be possible to upend it.

Otherwise, every day becomes more of a nightmare. Shades of Germany in the 1930s. And the Trump-lovers (like Frank Lee) simply say "DEI, Woke, George Soros, libtards, blah blah blah) and stand by exultant as the American Constitution gets trashed.

Take Back Democracy? Well, that was called Nov.4, and sadly it didn't happen. Now?

Well, it's hard not to shake my head and give up. It's very hard. Like Bill Maher said, this ain't funny no more.

My friends and family in Canada say the country is united in their hatred of Trump - his tariff threats have become the number one election issue. But then he blows that away with his Gaza takeover. And next week it'll be national abortion ban. And when millions of women take to the streets I'll say - you had your chance to stop this on Nov.4!

Well, now my blood pressure's rising, and i'm too old and sick for this.

Let Frank sing Trump's praises (he's probably representative of millions of Americans) so at least we know what they're thinking. And the fact that he engages in conversation is a hopeful sign - he's not calling for us to deported. Not yet.

I've been actively involved in politics for over 60 years, and never thought we'd be here on edge of Dictatorship in America. But that's what Executive Rule looks like. And the saddest part is that Nov.4 could have ended the Trump era once and for all. Instead, well, God help us all.

welcome aboard, Anita.

Yes, it's gonna be a helluva battle to get rid of this democracy-hating lunatic and his insane clown posse. And "duty" is the right word, for anyone who believes in American democracy. What Trump is doing - ruling by Executive Orders, surrounded by self-serving sycophants - is not democracy. It's dictatorship. Trump "dictates" what the law will be, and the so-called checks and balances (Congress, Senate, SCOTUS) simply rubber stamp it.

Sadly, this could have ended on Nov.4, but it's too late now. The wolves are indeed at the gate - no, they're INSIDE the gates, and so we have to fight back as best we can. Thanks Anita for your courage and determination .

Thank you for providing a space to call for action and encourage each other to stand firm. Do you have any feel for who in the blogosphere is doing a good job of bringing together various content/resources? The speed of Felon47s destructive and illegal actions requires a rapid and agile response. A great many people are ready to fight back but don't know where or how to contribute. I have been encouraging people to get on Bluesky, and sharing things like Heather Cox Richardson's blog, Sons of Liberty socials, Meidas Touch, and others, but we need better organization.

I feel like our Democratic legislators need to be more active in getting people organized, with clear goals and action plans. For instance, instead of everyone being hammered by multiple donation seekers, it would make sense to set some priorities for funding, like the 3 house races coming up. Trump and Musk will spend millions to defend them, we have to get similar money in play. During the election, a group called Indivisibles sent me texts and emails stating they had made such a list, BUT NEVER SHARED THE DAMN NAMES! I wanted to pull my hair out!

On a more personal note, I know it is easy to become discouraged, I too felt so much anger and frustration at the inability of people to recognize the danger that was growing. Every setback hurts, but I encourage you to stay the fight. I imagine you remember that Churchill was on the verge of surrender, had in fact written the speech. But then the bombing stopped. So take breaks when you must, but then rise up again. We may not stem this tide, but how we lived and fought will matter. There is no dishonor in losing, only in giving up.

You are making a difference, and you may never know what can spring up from the seeds you plant. Sites like yours help inform and engage, removing some of the fear and paralysis that is the deliberate goal of would-be dictators. I want to help, but don't want to waste time chasing my tail. Thoughts?

Anita

Anita, I think so many of us are thinking like you, torn between the outrageousness of what's going on (Dictator Trump, Co-Dictator Musk, Cowardly Congress, Corruption at the deepest level falsely presenting itself as the solution) - it's enough to make me want to give up on democracy (did America really re-elect this conman?).

On the other hand, we can't just bury our heads and walk away, because it'll only get worse. And worse beyond anything we can imagine.

For 2 years I wrote almost weekly articles under the title "Neo-Fascism: A Warning" (followed by a few months of "Kamala4Prez") and where did that get us?

So here we are, with a petty, vindictive psychopath as America's elected Dictator.

If I had any hair left I'd want to pull it out. I'm old and sick and the future doesn't mean much to me, I've had a good 78 years.

But for my kids and their kids, well, the future looks grim.

What to do? How to save Democracy? How to save the planet?

Here's my only consolation right now: things are gonna get so bad (Trump tariffs will cause hyper-inflation, higher interest rates, market losses, high unemployment) that Trump-voters will finally say "wait a minute, I voted for Trump because of high food and gas prices, and now they're WORSE!!! Maybe when his bullshit hits America in the pocket book, maybe when his tariff trade war puts thousand, maybe millions out of work, maybe when the whole economy tanks, then the Trump Trance will finally be broken. If that happens before the 2026 mid-terms, then the Repubs will be swept out of Congress, and the Dems can put a stop to Trump's egomanical insanity. Impeach the fuck out of him .

That's the only hope I see.
